180 lessons surveying both testaments book by book, with inductive study method, church history, apologetics, ethics, and worldview.
About this course
Seventh grade is the year the eight strands start to feel like real subjects rather than school topics. The Old Testament and New Testament surveys move book by book and section by section, covering the Pentateuch, the historical books, the Major and Minor Prophets, the wisdom literature, the four Gospels compared with one another, Acts, all thirteen of Paul's letters, the general epistles, and Revelation. Bible study skills go past finding a verse into method: reading in context, verse-by-verse and topical and thematic and word studies, using a concordance and commentaries and cross-references, and the full inductive method of observe, interpret, apply. Church history is the widest sweep the curriculum has given so far, running from Pentecost through the persecutions, the Apostolic Fathers, Nicaea, the Great Schism of 1054, the medieval monasteries and Crusades, Luther and Calvin, the Anabaptists, the Puritans, the Great Awakening, and the modern missions movement.
The course is 180 lessons across 15 units, one per school day, at about 25 minutes each. A lesson is roughly a thousand words of teaching prose under subheadings, quoting and citing the King James text throughout, and ending with a list of key terms and references worth remembering. Every lesson ends with a ten-question multiple-choice quiz that grades itself.
Apologetics and ethics are where a seventh grader will feel the course pushing hardest, and it is worth knowing what is in them. Apologetics takes on atheism directly, the manuscript evidence for the Bible, fulfilled prophecy, the case for the resurrection, whether all religions lead to the same place, why relativism fails, how to handle honest doubt, and a lesson answering the claim that evolution has disproved creation, which the course argues against rather than presenting as an open question. Ethics is built on the Ten Commandments and reaches sanctity of life, care for the disabled and the elderly, justice for the oppressed, honesty online, conscience, and sexual purity, which is taught as a moral commitment rather than as biology. The worldview unit includes a careful two-kingdoms lesson on Romans 13 and Acts 5:29 that presents the Anabaptist case for church-state separation as its own tradition. This is a reading-heavy course that assumes your student can work independently and then talk it over with you.

Media Discernment: Testing Ideas Against Scripture
Every day you are exposed to hundreds of messages through social media, movies, music, news, books, advertisements, and conversations. Every one of these messages reflects a worldview. Most are not labeled — no film begins with a disclaimer saying "This story assumes there is no God and that people should define their own truth." The worldview is embedded in the story, the assumptions, the heroes and villains, the problems and solutions.
Media discernment is the practice of watching, reading, and listening thoughtfully — recognizing the worldview messages being sent and evaluating them against the standard of Scripture. "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21). The Bereans were commended because they "searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so" (Acts 17:11). This is the discernment model.
Practical questions to ask about any media:
What does this story assume about where we come from? (Creation or accident?)
What does it present as the human problem? (Sin and separation from God, or external circumstances and social systems?)
What does it present as the solution? (Redemption in Christ, or self-discovery, education, social change, or technological progress?)
Who are the heroes, and what makes them heroic? (Their courage, love, and sacrifice, or their rebellion against authority and traditional morality?)
What does this story say about sexuality, family, gender, and identity?
What worldview would a person absorb by consuming a diet of this kind of content?
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things" (Philippians 4:8). This is Paul's filter for what to put in your mind. It does not mean never engaging with difficult or dark content — the Bible itself contains difficult content. But it does mean being selective, thoughtful, and purposeful.
Media discernment does not require you to stop watching movies or listening to music. It requires you to watch and listen like a Christian — eyes open, Scripture engaged, worldview antenna up.
Key terms: media discernment, Philippians 4:8, 1 Thessalonians 5:21, Acts 17:11, worldview analysis, cultural engagement
