Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.
Matthew 7:12
Music lyrics are one of the most accessible and memorable forms of written Spanish. Today you will read and analyze Spanish song lyrics — applying both language and discernment skills. Choose one Spanish-language Christian worship song (suggestions: "Grandes Cosas" by Phil Wickham [Spanish version], "Renuévame" by Marcos Witt, or "Bello Eres Tú" by Hillsong Español). Print or write out the full lyrics.
Reading analysis: (1) Identify every word you know. Circle them. (2) Try to infer the meaning of unfamiliar words from context and sound. (3) Write a phrase-by-phrase English paraphrase of the song. (4) What theological truth does this song express? Cite the specific lines that express it. (5) Find one Bible verse that matches the song's central theme.
Comparison: Now find one line from a secular Spanish pop song (with a parent's help). Compare the themes, language, and worldview of the two. What does each song value? What does each song worship? This is discernment practice — identifying what a piece of writing assumes about what matters and what is true.
Psalm 96:1-2 says, "O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day." In Spanish: "Cantad a Jehová cántico nuevo; cantad a Jehová, toda la tierra. Cantad a Jehová, bendecid su nombre; anunciad de día en día su salvación." The command to sing to God is universal — "toda la tierra" — all the earth. Spanish worship music is part of the global chorus of praise. Reading it carefully builds both language skill and theological understanding.
