A full 180-lesson year rotating through Bible survey, character, Bible study skills, church history, apologetics, ethics, and worldview.
About this course
Second grade is where Bible becomes a full daily subject with a real spine. Eight strands rotate through the year: Old Testament survey (Creation and the Fall, Cain and Abel, Noah, the Tower of Babel, Abraham, Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob and Esau, Joseph, Moses, the plagues and the Exodus), New Testament survey (John the Baptist, the baptism and temptation of Jesus, the calling of the disciples, the Beatitudes, the healings, Zacchaeus, Palm Sunday, the Last Supper, and the resurrection appearances), Christian character, Bible study skills, church history, apologetics, ethics, and worldview. The church history strand runs straight through Acts, from Pentecost and Stephen to Philip and the Ethiopian, Saul's conversion, Paul's journeys, the trouble at Corinth, and John on Patmos. The apologetics strand takes on real questions at a child's level, including how we know Jesus lived, whether the resurrection happened, who made God, why God allows suffering, what to do with doubts, and how to talk to a friend about Jesus.
The course is 180 lessons across 15 units, one lesson per school day. Each unit is 12 lessons on one strand, and the first seven strands come around a second time later in the year with new material rather than review. A lesson runs about 15 minutes: a short passage of teaching prose that quotes the King James text directly, discussion questions to talk through together, a KJV memory verse, and often a small hands-on activity such as making a four-page worldview booklet or looking up a word in a concordance. Every lesson ends with a ten-question multiple-choice quiz that grades itself.
The writing here is a genuine step up from first grade. It is expository rather than storybook, it quotes chapter and verse constantly, and it expects your student to hold a longer thought. A confident second-grade reader can work through much of it, but reading it aloud together is still the intended way, and the Bible study skills unit in particular assumes an adult nearby, since it teaches finding a reference, using a table of contents, marking a Bible, and working with a dictionary and concordance on an actual physical Bible. On questions Christians genuinely differ about, the course generally lays out the ground rather than settling it for you and your family.

Unit 8: Worldview · Lesson 7
Worldview - Lesson 7
15 minutesBible (KJV or children's Bible)PencilCrayons or colored pencils
What this lesson is for
The student will learn about how Worldview - lesson 7
The student will memorize the day's Bible verse
The student will apply the lesson to daily life
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
Comparing worldviews: what does everyone believe? Every person, culture, and religion answers the four worldview questions (Where did I come from? What is wrong? How can it be fixed? Where am I going?). Briefly and age-appropriately: secular humanism says (1) I came from evolution with no purpose; (2) the problem is ignorance, poverty, or bad systems; (3) education and better government will fix it; (4) I go nowhere when I die — this life is all there is. Islam says (1) Allah created me; (2) humans are weak but not fundamentally sinful; (3) submitting to Allah's law fixes it; (4) paradise for the faithful. Buddhism says (1) I am part of the cycle of rebirth; (2) desire causes suffering; (3) ending desire through the Eightfold Path; (4) Nirvana (extinction of self). Hinduism has countless variations.
Compare each to the Christian worldview: only Christianity answers all four questions in a way that is both coherent (the parts fit together logically) and livable (consistent with how humans actually experience life). Secular humanism cannot explain why murder is objectively wrong if we are just evolved animals. Buddhism and Hinduism struggle to explain why an individual's suffering matters if the self is ultimately an illusion. Islam's God is distant and unknowable; Christianity's God enters history personally.
Activity: Fill in a "Worldview Comparison Chart" with the four questions as rows and Christianity vs. one other worldview as columns. Discuss one difference at a time. The goal is not to mock other worldviews but to understand them clearly and to see what makes Christianity distinctively satisfying and true. "Buy the truth, and sell it not" (Proverbs 23:23) — know the truth well enough to recognize what is not truth.
