Unit 5: Flexibility and Balance · Lesson 7
Flexibility and Balance - Lesson 7
What this lesson is for
- The student will complete at least two balance games (heel-to-toe walk, standing on a cushion) successfully.
- The student will notice balance improves with practice.
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
1 Corinthians 6:19
Balance games are so much fun and they train your brain and body to work together! Here are some great balance games: walking heel-to-toe along a line on the floor, balancing a beanbag on your head while walking, standing on one foot while a partner tries to (gently!) distract you by waving hands near you, and stork standing — standing on one foot and touching the knee of the raised leg with both hands!
Activity: Set up a balance game station circuit! Station 1: Walk heel-to-toe along a tape line for 10 feet. Station 2: Balance a beanbag on your head and walk 5 steps. Station 3: Stand on one foot for 15 seconds (right then left). Station 4: Do the stork stand for 10 seconds each side. Station 5: Walk sideways along a tape line without crossing your feet. Do the circuit twice and try to do each station a little better the second time!
Balance in our bodies teaches us about balance in life! Ecclesiastes 3:1 says 'To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.' A balanced life includes work and rest, learning and play, worship and activity. Pray today for God's help to keep your life in healthy balance — time in His Word, time with family, time for exercise, time for service, time for rest. Balance honors God!
Homework
Set up a heel-to-toe line at home and challenge a family member to walk it without stepping off.
