14 words · 12 sentences · 10 verses. Every sheet prints on letter paper with proper three-line rules. Trace the grey letters, then write on the empty lines.

For the parent

Sixth grade is the year handwriting stops being a lesson and becomes a habit. Work for a slant that stays the same from the first word of a line to the last, rather than for showy loops.

Set the paper at a slight angle and keep it there. Most wandering slant comes from a page that creeps as the hand moves across it, not from the letters themselves.

Check letter height by looking down the line, not at one word. Tall letters (b, d, f, h, k, l, t) should reach the same height every time; small letters should stop at the midline together.

In cursive, the joining strokes matter more than the letters. Practice the hard joins on their own: br, ok, we, oa, vi, and any letter following an o, r, v, or w.

Write each set once in print and once in cursive. Comparing the two hands on the same words shows a student where his spacing, not his letter shapes, is doing the damage.

Speed comes last. Write at a pace that keeps the line steady, then let it quicken on its own over the year.

Copy every verse exactly as it stands, including the older spellings. Careful copying of Scripture is itself a small act of reverence.
